How to Apply to Become a Seminar Leader
Want to take this to the next step? If so, there are five steps in the process.
Step One: Complete Application
This is fairly straightforward. We want to know a little about you, your education, your experiences, your job history, your musical history, and about you as a person. Its like a job app, but we try to make it a little friendlier and easier to use. Click here for an on-line application in pdf form.
Step Two: Audition
If your application looks good, well want to hear how you sound at a piano. We can do this a couple of ways. We can set up a live audition at our Northern California offices or do the Remote Audition. The remote audition consists of a telephone interview with you at a piano followed by an audition recording that you submit to us.
What were looking for is basic keyboard knowledge from a chord point of view. Wed like to hear you play a song for us and well ask you a few questions concerning chords, arpeggios, etc.
Step Three: Interview
Once you pass the audition process, well set up a one on one interview. We would like to do this in person, but if we cant make it work logistically, we could hook up with a video link via computer. You will have to set up the technical details at your end for this very important meeting.
During the interview we will ask probing questions to make sure youll do well as a presenter. The next steps will involve some investment of time and money on both our parts, and we want to make certain you are a good fit for us and vice versa before we take the next step.
Step Four: Training
Once you pass the Interview phase, you will be invited to train with us. Training will take three days and will take you through every phase of the workshop process from setting up your class to filling out reports. Youll learn the secrets of teaching ordinary people how to play the piano after just one day. Theres a lot that goes into this process, and we want to be sure youre ready to to roll when we give you your first workshop.
Be aware that at this point you will be charged a training fee of $400 to cover materials and other training expenses. This fee is payable in full by check or credit card before training begins. These training sessions can be held at any place in the country, and you will be responsible for all expenses involved in getting you to the training site, including transportation (usually by air), lodging, meals, and personal expenses. The $400 training fee is nonrefundable.

Step Five: Certification
Once youve passed the training portion, youll be certified and ready to teach. By this time you will have completed the questionnaire as to how much you want to teach, and how far youre willing to travel. Our scheduling department will be hard at work setting up workshops for you, according to your wishes.
We will strive to get you in front of classes as soon as possible after certification. Keep in mind there are many variables that go into scheduling (such as your willingness to travel and days you are available), and we cant make promises or guarantees regarding teaching opportunities. We will promise we will work hard to get you a schedule that matches your available to the fullest degree possible.
Your Compensation
Your basic guarantee is $150 per seminar taught. But of course, thats just a start. As you become more and more successful as a seminar presenter you will be compensated better as you move up the ladder.
Your minimum will increase (up to $300 per seminar) with greater and greater profit margins on materials and courseware, your take could easily reach $500 and more.
If you are familiar with the way our program used to work, an independent seminar leader was responsible for finding his own locations for teaching workshops. That process was time consuming and by itself didnt produce income.
Now its different. We do all the leg work of finding and setting up your classes. We do promotion, news releases, negotiating with sponsors, and making sure you have students to teach and places to teach them.
All you ever have to do is show up for the workshop, teach the workshop, and send in a report.
Thats a lot of pressure taken off you.
